I have a suspected tumour on one of my parathyroid glands and need a nuclear scan to check it out. It's all very complicated and came to light when it was noticed my Vit D levels were very low and then calcium started leaking out of my bones into my blood, causing huge pain in my bones as well as my joints....OK you get the picture (I don't!!). This, coupled with the fact my old kidneys are on the blink sent me into a bit of a tailspin last week. I chatted it through with my fellow committee members from the support group and one of them (who is well known for always feeling "crap") said: My friend had one of those and she died. They have to take it out and slit your throat from ear to ear and you won't like the scar. I wasn't sure how to react until two of the wonderful members burst out laughing - Steve and I saw the funny side too. I asked her how long ago this has happened - her reply - abouty 35 years!! Honestly!! These tumours are 99% benign so it's not that that was bothering me - just one more damned thing to add to the list and more surgery when I already feel - yes you've guessed it, CRAP!! Aren't some people stupid? Thanks for listening xx

Oh my-yes, they certainly are stupid and thoughtless Jean. So sorry to hear about this extra thing on top of everything else. When do you have your tests done?

Supposed to be next Monday, but I now have a chest infection and until that clears, I can't lie down without coughing my guts up. How is Alan? Any sign of the hospital appointment yet? xx

ditto for me with 4th chest infection-having all sorts of test done. Alan is not very good-having a lot of trouble and pain with his catheter so seeing the doc. tomorrow. He's due for the op on Jan.25th IF he can get rid of constant urine infections! Apart from that we're fine!!! RollEyes

Sorry to hear your news, Jean - and about the stupid, thoughtless woman who felt obliged to make her crass comment. Why can`t these people think before they speak? Or better still, stay silent.

Hope the chest infection clears soon - I seem to pick them up annually at about this time, such a b****y nuisance.

Take care,

Kathleen x

Sorry to hear you now have the chest infection on top of all this Jean!
People can be so stupid with what they say. I think things have moved on a bit in hospitals since 35 years ago!
Good luck for the test, and get to the docs with the chest infection!

Love Doreen xx

Hi Jean,
sorry to hear you have another problem to deal with. My sister in law is having investigations for this at the moment too, she has had her scan and is going for the results this week. I hope everything goes well for you. I've had a few nuclear medicine scans myself recently so can promise you that that bit will be fine.
Hope you recover from your chest infection quickly.
As for your friend's remark, some people certainly speak before they think!

Take care, thinking of you

Hi Jean sorry that you are feeling so rough and I hope they can sort it soon. Although its nothing like the same thing I thought some reassurance may help in that I had an emergency op in October to remove a tumour which meant a complete hysterectomy and bowel section at the same time. As it was an emergency I was still on the methrotrexate and a week before had just had another dose of Rituximab, no time to stop either.
I got through it all really well, only 8 days in hospital, no infection, (they did steal my belly button!) and the very best bit was that for 4 weeks afterwards the RA went into complete remision so that I could walk, sleep comfy, dress easily, etc etc. So sometimes there are bonus' in having an op.
Hope it all goes well
Best wishes
Sheila

hi Jean,

sorry you have something else to contend with,

it's funny how one crass remark can really rock the boat !! even if given re-assurance by the medical profession one off the cuff remark can really throw you.

i hope everything goes well for you,

She's got RA, although she doesn't look ill!

The scan has been cancelled until I am completely shot of the chest infection. If I cough in the middle of the scan, they would have to re-do! Who knows HOW long this will take? xx
